It's Not Inspiration You Need. It's Some Progress.

The best inspiration comes from getting things done.

Not looking for new answers. Not trying to reinvent the process. Just taking baby steps towards where you want to be.

It's all too easy to fall into the trap of not doing anything because you don't know the best thing to do.

Here is the hard truth.

There is never a best thing to do.

There are really only two places: making forward progress (no matter how small) and staying stuck.

The fear and internal angst you feel come from trying to avoid getting it wrong. Trying to avoid getting hurt. Trying to avoid the humiliation of not being perfect.

That's natural and expected. Automatic. There's no need for you to take more damage than you need to.

But there's something magical about building momentum towards where you want to be.

Success is not so much about the destination as it is making progress.

It is the process of getting to where you want to be that accelerates your success in that direction.

You start off not knowing how you're going to get there -- just that you have a burning passion to be there. And then, as you begin to move, you find the encouragement and inspiration to keep moving.

You learn and grow. You adapt and improve. You see your own skills begin to develop.

But none of that happens if you're not willing to fail. To try something new. To take that first step. To get started.

Think about that when you're looking for inspiration.

When you find yourself stuck searching for what to do.

You already know one thing you could do. So do that thing. And while you're doing that thing, monitor your progress. Look around you at what is going on and take note of your momentum.

What is working? What's not working. What could you do to get closer to where you want to be?

You might not always feel like doing something, but doing something is always the right answer. Progress beats potential any day.

So the next time you find yourself feeling like you're uninspired and in need of a good dose of motivation, remind yourself that the best inspiration is knowing that you're a step closer to where you want to be.

And the only one who controls that is you. Get up and move.
