If You Fake It You're Guaranteed Not To Make It.
It’s delusional to think that you can pretend to be somebody that you’re not so that eventually you will end up becoming the person that you should be.
It’s tempting to pretend that you’re faster than you really are. That you are smarter than you really are. That you have fewer problems, more options, and smaller obstacles than what you really have.
It’s tempting to believe that if you fake it long enough you’ll end up becoming the person you’re pretending to be.
But you can’t lie and cheat your way to success.
You can’t stretch the truth, bend the rules, deny reality, and expect everything to end up turning out.
That’s not how life works. In business or your personal life. Good people don’t lie. Good people don’t cheat. Good people don’t manipulate those around them.
And even though it’s true that sometimes bad guys end up coming out ahead at first, their success is always short lived.
They almost always end up in a debilitating self-imposed explosion of selfish behavior and lazy naiveté. They fall fast. Land hard. And rarely get back on their feet.
Faking it doesn’t make them. It finishes then.
It will end you too if you decide to pursue “faking it” as a strategy for getting to where you want to be.
So what can you do if you’re not good enough to be where you want to be and not willing to pretend like you’re somebody you’re really not?
- Admit when you’re wrong — even when it hurts.
- Apologize when you accidentally hurt other people with your actions.
- Learn what you can do better the next time.
- Be relentless about holding yourself to a high standard.
- Ask for help when you really need it.
We’re all looking for something.
No matter what you have accomplished, you’ll always be thinking of what you what to do next. You will always want to get to a new place. A better place.
Just don’t confuse faking it with the real thing. Don’t confused the games you play with the real thing.
Don’t spend a whole lifetime faking it when you could have just been making it. That’s a sad way to live your life.
