How To Manage The Loneliness You Feel.
I feel lonely a lot. Seems odd to say out loud, but it's the truth. Most of the time, I feel like I'm the only one on my team -- the only one who understands the craziness going on in my head. It's lonely. Because I'm the one people expect to have it figured out. I'm supposed to have all the answers.
And that's a big burden to carry sometimes.
I had always heard that dreaming big dreams would cost me money and effort, friends and free time. But I never heard much about the impact of feeling lonely. That feeling between confusion and helplessness where you know there's a better place to be but aren't exactly sure how to get there.
The irony of feeling lonely is that I'm not alone. A lot of you feel the exact same way that I do at times. You feel like you're "the only one". That you can't easily put into words the emotions you feel about getting to where you want to be.
Maybe being lonely is the way you're supposed to feel.
Maybe it's supposed to be tough. Maybe feeling like you're like everybody else just means that you've become satisfied with mediocrity. That you're in the middle of the crowd. That what you're doing isn't memorable, magical, or monumental.
Or maybe that's just what I tell myself when I'm feeling down -- that it's supposed to be that way. That following your dreams is supposed to leave you scared out of your mind and not sure who to go to for help.
Being lonely is something you can avoid.
But maybe you shouldn't. Maybe the emotions we feel are the best way to find the way forward. To push beyond what is ordinary to achieve extraordinary results.
And frankly, if feeling lonely is the worst of it, maybe it's good we're feeling a little confused and frustrated.
Maybe that's the best way to know that you are alive.
