The Part Of Success You're Really Afraid Of.
One of the wacky psychology lessons we learned from the 1990's was our inherent "fear of success."
Still today you'll hear someone tell you that: "the only thing holding you back from achieving your goals is your fear of success". Deep down. You are afraid of being successful. And that fear is subconsciously making you do things that sabotage your chances of being successful.
Apparently, you are more afraid of the environment created by your success than the hopelessness of horrific failure. Apparently, deep down in your soul, you don't want to achieve success. You wouldn't know what to do with yourself if you actually ended up being successful anyways.
Apparently, mediocrity is all you're bound for. That is, if you listen to the experts.
But that's just nonsense.
You aren't afraid of being successful. In fact, you want to be successful more than anything else in the world. You achieving the best for yourself is wired into the very core of your being. You can't help it.
Success is the language that your brain uses to filter the world around you. Part survival, part need for superhuman accomplishment -- the synapses in your brain fire millions of times per second to calculate, correlate, and coordinate your chances for being successful.
It's simple biology. There is no escaping the science behind success.
You want it. You need it.
Subconsciously, and very consciously, your entire being is fighting for you to be successful.
You aren't afraid of being successful. You are afraid of that at all. You're afraid of how hard its going to be until you get there.
That's the fear that no one wants to talk about.
Your coach, your priest, that expert you've been reading about -- they're all afraid to tell you how hard its going to be.
Brutally tough. Insanely hard. And that still might not be enough to make you a champion. That still might not be enough to propel you beyond mediocrity.
But deep down you already knew that.
You know that achieving the audacious goals you have for yourself is the hardest thing you might ever done. That's scary.
And so you're afraid. Afraid that you may not make it. Afraid that you're not tough enough, smart enough, or quick enough to see your way to the finish line. You're afraid that when you get to the finish line you might not feel as accomplished or ecstatic as you imagine it right now.
And yet to get to the results you want you know you're going to have to take a few blows to the chin. Get your hands dirty.
You're going to have to pay a price. A high price.
And all of that is scary. And so you're afraid. Rightfully so.
But make no mistake, you're not afraid of success. You're not afraid of achieving big dreams. You're not afraid of attempting what others have never done before. You're not afraid of that. You were born for that.
So dig deep. Find a little harder. Don't worry -- what you want for you will be worth it when you get there.
It's okay to be scared.
That's what keeps you humble, hungry, and hyperactive.
Your fear that you might not make it this time -- that's what's keeping you alive and energized.
So believe a little bit more. Shout a little louder. Stand up straighter.
No one's going to take from you what you're unwilling to give up.
