Just Don't Shut Up Already.
Criticism hurts. Disbelief hurts. It's hard to hear the acidic opinions of those around you when you feel like you are giving everything you have. When you feel like you are doing everything within your power to be successful.
To hear that you were a failure. To hear that you are letting someone else down. To hear that you're not doing it just quite right. That feels like a kick in the gut.
You want to give up.
You just want to scream at the top of your lungs "just shut up already."
You don't want to hear it. You can't hear it. Every time you hear it, all you think about is failure. Your failure. How much you are screwing up. How badly you are missing the mark.
That is tough. Tough to hear. Talk to think about. Tough to sleep with on your mind. But it is also the quickest path forward. It is your roadmap for achieving big results.
Criticism always seems to add inspiration to your pursuit of excellence.
Sometimes the criticism you hear will be unfair. It will be one-sided. Close minded. But it's still provides you a guidepost for where you need to go.
Strip away the anger from what you hear. Strip away the bias, fear, and uncertainty.
Listen for ways to improve.
Listen for clues to getting it right the next time. Learn how other people view what you are doing.
Get a different perspective from your own. It won't be easy. It takes emotional current to have your dreams challenged. To have your intentions questioned.
To put yourself in that position knowingly is the ultimate test in commitment. That's real bravery.
Or you can surround yourself with people who fawn all over everything you do and never have the guts to challenge you to live up to your full potential. Everybody smiling. Nobody with the character to tell you that you can be a better version of yourself.
So bite your tongue. You don't want them to "shut up."
You probably just want another chance to try to get it right. So give yourself one.
Get out there. Start over.
Try harder. Fight longer.
