You Can't Do It All By Yourself.
You can't do it all by yourself. You just can't. Achieving big goals takes a team. You have to surround yourself with people who want you to succeed. People who love you. People you love back.
Attempting audacious packs of extraordinary behavior takes a team supporting you. Which is why it can't always be about you.
For people to love and support you, you have to love and support them. Right? You can't just snap your fingers and force people to care about you and your dreams.
You have to care about other people.
Which is a harsh reminder when you need a team to support you most. There is no second chance or "do overs" when it comes to relationships. You are either building them or you are selfishly neglecting them.
This is true for your business career, your love life, and your weekend sporting events. No one likes to be around a jerk.
In fact, we'll go out of our way to spend time with people who make us feel remarkable. We never forget those people who come to our aid and support us in a moment of weakness.
You can't bully your way through life. Just because you have a dream and work hard doesn't mean that you can push people around and manipulate them so that you get what you want first.
Long-term success is about you supporting others.
It's about you being part of the team that makes someone else successful.
Someday that team will be supporting you.
Helping you achieve your goals. Making sure that you are successful.
This just happened to me: I had an incredible team support me this last weekend. My wife Sara and friends Jeremy Buker (who drove 18 hours to help), Cleber and Thalita, Chris, Taylor, and Dan and Bethany -- they all helped me run 70.6 miles to raise thousands of dollars for my favorite charity, To Write Love on Her Arms. Dozens and dozens of you contributed money to the cause. And hundreds of you offered your support in e-mails and text messages and through social media.
You were my team. And I am grateful. Thank you.
