Today is all you have. Today is the end of yesterday and the beginning of tomorrow.
But it's the only thing that you're guaranteed.
So you should start acting like it.
Stop wasting time. Start valuing each second.
Stop going to meetings just because important people invited you to them. If you can't contribute to the meeting, don't go. If the meeting is too long, leave early. Instead of getting stuck in the rut of doing things just because people think you should, change it up. Value each second you have. You'll find yourself accomplishing more than you ever expected.
Do what matters most first.
Frankly, you're the smartest you'll be all day at the beginning of the day. Your brain has had a chance to rest; so tough problems get solved quite easily when they are tackled at the beginning of the day. But it's more than just about more brainpower. Solving hard problems first helps you begin the day with mastery. If you can do hard stuff fast, you can probably do everything else even faster.
Ignore distractions that are fun.
Doing what is fun is always in direct conflict with what is most important to get done. Distractions might seem important at the time, but all too often at the end of the day you notice how little value they provide you in achieving your goals. It's hard to do at the time but you have to say no to yourself when shiny distractions pop up and distract you for your time. They're just stealing your dream.
Laugh at your detractors.
Other people's opinions don't matter when today is all you have. The only opinion that matters is your opinion. If you're focusing on today as the only day you have to make things happen then it won't matter what people say about you or think about you or talk about you. You won't be around to hear it tomorrow. So just get the laughing out-of-the-way right now. Shake your head and feel sorry for people who just don't understand how amazing you are.
It's not about money.
It's strange how urgency brings a clear perspective to life. Money isn't everything. There are things that you are working for that matter more. Love, legacy, relationships are just a few. So start spending time on those things right now. You'll find they bring you money. But more importantly they bring you happiness. And if today was the only day you had money, you would probably trade all of it just to be happy. Start working on that now.
At the end of the day -- and that time always comes -- all you're left with is what you have done that day.
That's it. What you are working on or what your planning to do mean nothing.
They do not exist.
Because today is over and tomorrow might not ever exist.
Make the most of it.
