Sensible… leading ALL…

Being a leader means that you see things differently than everyone else in your organization. You are looking for the "big picture"... The concepts that tie together the rest of the plan. I was messing around on a new site that attempts to make common sense equivalents to measurements.

FOR INSTANCE:
  • 14.5 inches = 46 dry basmati rice grains end to end OR 3.1 CDs side by side OR 1.7 average football (soccer ball) diameters OR 1.6 chopsticks end to end...
  • 13 mile = 47 Empire State Buildings OR 26 Burj Dubais (after completion) OR 19 Table Mountains OR 4.3 Mont Blancs...
  • 275 KB = 27 pages from an encyclopedia OR 16 average web pages...
  • 32 feet = 44 average football (soccer ball) diameters OR 6.8 standard railway gauges OR 3 male African elephants standing on top of one another OR 2.2 double-decker buses stacked one on top of another...

By the way, the name of the site is www.sensibleunits.com. Take a look and come to your "sensibilities"... Just imagine being able to stack up elephants instead of using a tape measure... AHH.... the simple pleasures of having common sense!

On a serious note, it is important to understand that while we as leaders may see the forest, the trees, and sometimes even the storm on the other side of the universe -- ALL AT THE SAME TIME -- our team members rarely have the same perspective... Leading the whole team means a dedication to using pictures, stories, and consistent motivation to lead everyone at the same pace...
By the way, did you know that:
  • 2 hogsheads of beer = 71 footballs OR 65 party balloons OR 58 kettles OR 24 microwave ovens OR 3.4 wheelie bins OR 2.9 ovens OR 2.6 barrels of oil OR 1.5 fridge-freezers...

TAKE AWAY: The next time you are in a public leadership situation ask yourself if you are being "sensible"... Am I leading from senseless rhetoric or by creating a road map for destiny that everyone can envision...
