The Business NINJA…obsession

(By the way, KUDOS to all of you writing to me about how this blog is part of your day... You comments are an inspiration to me...)

Combat... the thrill of injury... the lust for battle... NO. I am NOT talking about Tekken... (which, by the way, is coming out next year). Rather, I am talking about BUSINESS... You have got to love the battle or you'll run from the field when injured!

In talking with my brother, commonly referred to as Pedro, yesterday about my wild and crazy ideas about life, we came to the joint realization that there were indeed levels of commitment in life:

  • Going Through the Motions: This is baseline for breathing, living, pretending to be a normal human being... Enough said!
  • Liking What you Do: OK. So you get get out of the office at 5PM and grab a brew with the "boys"... You might get to have fun in the office... Do what you "like" doing...
  • Being Passionate About What you Do: Changing the world is actually an option... Somewhat balanced life... with some great personal, professional , and health accomplishments...
  • OBSESSION: ...ummmm..... so if you haven't been reading this blog long let me explain what obsession means to me:

"OBSESSION is the PERSISTENT mental ADDICTION to a LIFE GOAL..." (DEWISM)

OK. That might not be what I really feel to be the extent of obsession, but it is the start to the subject (feels more like Websters than DEW)...

Try not sleeping at night because you have a gut feeling about something that you might have thought about earlier in the day that might be the key to accomplishing that idea.... It's the maniacal approach to not letting anything get in your way to accomplishing success...

Obsession means that people's feelings about your goals or ambitions are largely UNIMPORTANT... YES.... in case you missed it...unimportant! Stop caring!

Moral of the Story: Fear will get you out of bed in the morning, Ambition, will get you to work on time, Passion will cause you to work late, but Obsession will change the world...

One more Thought: It's no strange coincidence that all the greatest writers, artists, scientists, athletes of ALL TIME have been viewed as extremely obsessive by their peers... "Nutty" or "delusional" -- whatever the label, obsession propelled the world's best into the history books...

-----

Conclusion...maybe: So you might be asking: HOW do I get "obsession"? YOU CAN'T! It gets you... It comes to those who seek to find it... And when it's found:

  • It's the reward for foresight when no one else has vision...
  • It's commendation for inner trust when there are no believers...
  • It's the drive that fuels success when others limit possibility...

"Obsession is your way of knowing you will win before you even start the contest..."(DEWISM)
