Mediocrity Costs More…

Underperformance can be attributes to many factors, not the least of which being lack of motivation. Prevailing business theory advances the idea of the 10-70-20 principle.

The top 10% of the group are successful, motivated leaders - out ahead of the pack...

The middle 70% of the group are average, mediocre followers...

While the bottom 20% of the group are negative, "energy-drainers" who should either be motivated to join the middle 70% or replaced...

It seems apparent to me that instead of focusing our energy on the bottom 20% of the organization, a leader might see more Leadership ROI by developing genius from the ranks of mediocrity rather than exerting that same effort into establishing basic mediocrity.

Moving an Employee Towards Mediocrity Costs more than Moving them Out the Door!
